Teeth Extractions in
Wauchula

At Wauchula Dental, it is always our goal to save your natural teeth. However, in cases when an extraction is necessary, we will do everything possible to make the process comfortable and stress-free.

There are many situations when removing a person’s tooth is in the best interest of their oral health. This could be because the tooth is irreparably damaged, because it is damaging other teeth, or in preparation for orthodontic treatment. Regardless of the reason, our goal is to always make the tooth extraction process as easy as possible.

The process for extracting a tooth starts with X-rays of the structure. This is useful for determining the safest way to remove it. We will then provide any necessary sedation for the patient. This can include laughing gas and/or oral sedation. Once the patient is comfortable, we will use a special tool to quickly and effectively pull the tooth from the socket. The actual removal is usually completed in a matter of seconds, and the patient should not feel any serious pain.

With the tooth removed, will immediately start the recovery process. The patient will need to bite down on a gauze pad for 30 to 45 minutes so that a blood clot can form. It is then very important the patient does not disturb the blood clot. The patient will usually require a few days to recover from the procedure. During recovery, an ice pack can be applied to the outer cheek near the extraction site for up to 20 minutes at a time to reduce any swelling.

Once the swelling has gone down, the patient can apply a warm compress to the area. This will help provide them with comfort. Additionally, warm salt water rinses are useful for keeping the extraction site clean. The patient will also want to avoid any tough or chewy foods during recovery, as they can be difficult to chew.

Wauchula Dental also provides wisdom teeth extractions for patients. The wisdom teeth are sometimes referred to as the third molars, and they grow in the very back of the mouth. These teeth will usually begin to emerge when a person is in their late teens or early twenties. Almost everyone has these teeth removed because of the severe angle at which they grow and the lack of space available for them inside the mouth. Removing these teeth early on helps prevent further issues from occurring later.
